This Monday, 8th December, two years since the Football Association invited us to speak at their inaugural celebration of Christianity and Football, we headed back to Wembley.
The FA's Celebration of Christianity and football gathered coaches, players and staff involved in professional football to explore how sport and faith connect at the Bobby Moore Suite in Wembley Stadium, with over 700 set to attend.
Hosted by Sky Sports presenter Simon Thomas and produced by Michael Wakelin, Executive Chair of the Religion Media Centre, the evening provided an opportunity for individuals and organisations to showcase projects seeking to connect Christianity and football before heading pitchside to worship God together.
It was a privilege for us to show the following two films: featuring our work discipling women playing elite-level football; and current pioneering research, led by our Mission Director Ian Lancaster, with parents and guardians of academy football players.
Gisela Otten shares her story of beginning a Bible study for women playing in the first four tiers of English football
Congratulations & Condolences: Extracts from research interviews with parents & guardians of academy footballers tell the story of the highs and lows of performance pathways.
At Christians in Sport, we remain committed to supporting players, coaches and support staff across men's and women's elite football as well as parents and guardians of performance pathway players through regular 1-2-1 and group Bible studies. We’re thankful to God for opportunities such as this to speak openly and celebrate the impact of Christianity within football, and we are encouraged to see our work in this sporting context recognised in such a way.
Follow us on social media for updates as we join with others at Wembley on Monday evening and, as we look ahead to 2026 - including the FIFA World Cup - will you pray with us that God would grow the faith of Christians within football, and continue to increase their number.
