Week 6 | University Group Meeting
Week 6 | University Group Meeting

Welcome & Vision | 5 Mins

  • Welcome everyone and particularly any newcomers this week.
  • Remind each other of the vision of CIS and the purpose of the weekly group meeting. (Consider using CIS videos and resources to keep this fresh each week).

Prayer & Evangelism | 10 Mins

  1. In pairs look back on your week of sport and discuss how last week’s group meeting helped you. Follow up with anything people asked for prayer about.
  2. In pairs share prayer points for the week of sport ahead and spend time praying for each other.

Some weeks pray more widely for other clubs and teams in your university which are not represented in the group. Alternatively, you can also use the CIS prayer diary to pray for the whole mission of CIS.

You might also want to use this slot to discuss and plan your evangelistic event for the term and pray specifically about it.

Week 6 | Confidence to share the Gospel

Introduction

As we continue to reach the world of university sport for Christ this session will help us see why we can have great confidence in sharing the good news of Jesus.

Read

Read Romans 1:16

Reflect

What stands out to you from this verse?

Explain

Paul devoted his life to spreading the good news of Jesus all over the world. He risked much and suffered greatly, yet he was not ashamed and confidently persevered in what God had called him to do. In Romans 1:16, Paul gives us three reasons why we too can be unashamed of the gospel and speak confidently about Jesus to those in our sports club.

  1. The Gospel is the power of God
God is powerful beyond all comprehension. At the command of His voice, all things, great and small, formed from nothing to make the reality of the universe. This same power is found in the gospel.
  2. The Gospel brings Salvation
The gospel is the power of God that brings salvation to those who believe. The gospel transforms lives- forever. From slavery to sin to freedom in Jesus. From eternal death to eternal life. From life as an enemy of God, to life as a child of God.
  3. The Gospel is for all
The gospel is for everyone. There is no exclusivity in its invitation. The rich, the poor, the weak, the strong, the extrovert, the introvert, the greatest sportsperson and the worst. The gospel is for all- no one is beyond the reach of the grace of the gospel.

Discuss

  1. How do these truths of what the gospel is give you confidence to share Jesus with your sports friends?
  2. Think of your sports friends who don’t yet know Jesus. Do you have confidence that the gospel can bring salvation to their hearts?
  3. What difference would having more confidence in the gospel make to how you interact with your sports friends this week?

Pray

  • Praise God for the power that lies in the gospel and the way it has brought salvation to your life.
  • In light of its power, ask God to grow your confidence to share His gospel with your sports friends this week.
  • Pray for each other, that you would not be ashamed of Jesus as you seek to live for him in your sports club and team.
