Sat 10th - Fri 16th Aug
Repton School, Repton, DE65 6FH
We’re very much looking forward to a summer packed full of Sports Plus and especially welcoming you to Repton. Hopefully this page provides you with all the material you need to prepare for your individual role, along with the practical information for the week, but if there is anything else you would like to know please don’t hesitate to contact us here.
Below is a kit list of things to bring. This is only intended as a guide and there may be other things you wish to bring.
Please note: expensive items (mobile phones, iPads, jewellery etc.) are brought at your own discretion and Christians in Sport accepts no responsibility for the loss or theft of any item. Also the school request that you do not bring any electrical items you know to be faulty and only use original chargers.
Dress Code
Young people are encouraged to wear sports kit and casual clothing at Sports Plus and we ask that leaders wear appropriate clothing for a sports camp and consider what it means to be a good role model for the young people in this area. Please leave your strappy/low cut tops, short shorts and muscle vests at home. Also guys, we run a ‘no tops off’ policy throughout the week.
Please use the relevant documents below to prepare for your specific role at Sports Plus. For an overview of the roles please click here.
Use this material to prepare for the daily Team Meeting Bible studies.
Use this material to prepare for the daily water breaks.
(Please note there is no specific preparation required for those on the Support Staff or Trainee Leaders/Coaches.)
Regardless of whether this is your first time or tenth time as a leader please stop to pray for Sports Plus. Prayer is showing our dependency on God for all things. We stop to recognise His sovereignty over everything; sport, teams, main meetings, salvation etc. Please use the prayer sheet as a guide to help you in your daily prayers.
DOWNLOAD PRAYER SHEETWe are also running online prayer gatherings on Monday 17th June at 7am, 12.30pm and 8pm which will include time to pray for Sports Plus. So please register below to join us for one of these.
REGISTER FOR A PRAYER GATHERINGBelow is a typical daily programme for Sports Plus.
Teams
Young people will be divided into teams of between 6-9 for small group discussions, Main Meetings, Team Challenge games, meals and accommodation. Teams are divided according to age and sex. Generally junior teams are young people currently in year 7-9 and senior teams those in year 10-12. There will be a Team Leader 1 and a Team Leader 2 assigned to each team for the duration of Sports Plus.
Sport
Young people will receive two hours coaching in their chosen sport during First Sport each morning. There will then be a wider variety of sports on offer for the afternoon Second Sport session and these will be communicated at the start of the week. Appropriately qualified/experienced Head Coaches will lead all sports sessions in line with government guidelines.
Accommodation
Accommodation is with teams in school boarding houses and there are separate houses for boys and girls. Team Leaders will be in separate rooms from the young people but in the same corridor/house. Coaches, Support Staff, married Team Leaders and families will normally be in separate houses. All meals are provided in the school dining hall by the school catering staff.
Christians in Sport complete thorough risk assessments for all areas of Sports Plus however by the nature of sporting activity injuries may occur. The sports programme will generally continue in wet weather under the discretion of the Head Coach/Sports Coordinator, and we cannot accept responsibility for injury where sufficient precautions have been taken.
Insurance
Christians in Sport is covered by Public Liability Insurance (£10m). This does not include personal injury cover, so you may also wish to take out individual sports insurance or holiday insurance.
Safeguarding
Sports Plus camps are run according to the Christians in Sport Safeguarding Policy. This policy is available here. In accordance with this policy all leaders will undergo a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, AccessNI check or be PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) Scheme members and will have attended a safeguarding session prior to the training weekend. There will be a designated Safeguarding Officer on site at all times; overseen by two Christians in Sport Designated Safeguarding Leads.
At Christians in Sport, we always seek to conduct ourselves in a way that is consistent with our Statement of Faith, in particular the importance we place upon the Bible as our supreme authority for faith and conduct. All Team Leaders, Coaches, Support Staff and Trainee Leaders/Coaches will be asked at the training weekend to sign to confirm they are in agreement with the Statement of Faith.
