Prayer Points

These are the prayer points used in our online prayer gathering on the 17th June.

SPORT/COACHING

Pray that young people would respond well to their training programmes, develop in their sport.
Pray for great fun and enjoyment of God’s good gifts during Team Challenge every day.

MAIN & TEAM MEETINGS

Pray that the teaching in Mark in the Evening Meeting and Hebrews 12 in the Morning Meeting would be faithful, understood and applied by every young person.
Pray that the MCs would lead the meetings well, finding the right balance of fun and seriousness as they point young people to Jesus.
Pray that all practical elements of the Morning and Evening Meetings (tech, music etc.) would combine effectively to create an atmosphere in which God is glorified.
Pray that the young people would actively engage in the Bible studies and that the Spirit would convict, encourage and teach the young people in gospel truth.

PRACTICALITIES

Pray for the health and safety of everyone involved at Sports Plus; for no major illness or injuries.
Pray for the safeguarding of young people; that every leader would be wise in the way they act towards each young person.
Pray for the smooth running of admin, registration, accommodation, catering and relations with school staff at each site.

Pray that as young people and leaders hear gospel truth that all would trust that He came to give His life for theirs.
Pray that as a team of leaders we would trust in God’s sovereign rule and take the opportunities He gives us to share the Good News with young people this summer.

YOUNG PEOPLE

Pray for young people who don't yet trust in Jesus; that their eyes would be opened
to understand who Jesus is and trust in what He came to do for them. Pray for those who are Christians; that they would grow in Christ and leave better equipped to represent Him in their sport.
Pray for unity amongst young people; that the Gospel will unite the many differences.

LEADERS/TRAINEES/DEVELOPMENT SQUAD

Praise God for the team of leaders who give their time to serve at Sports Plus.
Pray that in preparation for Sports Plus, every leader might be grounded in the gospel and ready to lead.
Pray that every leader would reflect God’s love to the young people, both in action and word.
Pray for all the Team Leaders who will open the Bible at Sports Plus. Pray that they would be faithful to God’s Word in preparation and always point towards Jesus.
Pray that each Coach would prepare well, establish good relationships with the young people and be a good witness for the Lord Jesus.
Pray that the Support Staff would serve well and enjoy helping Sports Plus to run smoothly.
Pray that the Development Squad, Trainee Leaders and Trainee Coaches would learn much and serve well.

Praise God for the launch of the 2024 Sports Mission Pack, created to help churches share Jesus with sportspeople during this amazing summer of sport. The pack includes quizzes for Euro 2024 and the Olympics and new evangelistic films based on the story of Eric Liddell, 100 years since his famous win. Pray that many people hear and respond to the gospel through the resources in this pack.
Pray for the short evangelistic book produced with 10ofThose which has being released for use by churches and individuals during the Olympics and shares the gospel story through the story of Eric Liddell. Pray that many purchase and use these to share the gospel with sportspeople.
The big summer of sport ahead provides opportunities for local Networks and churches to hold Guest Events focussed towards getting sports people under the sound of the gospel. Pray that many sports people would hear the good news of Jesus and respond to His call to follow Him.
In this Olympic year, pray for athletes to be confident and clear in their training programs and trusting the Lord with this coming season.
Every Olympic summer we get many opportunities to speak more widely to people about the work of Christians in Sport. Pray for us to make the most of every opportunity we get to speak of Jesus in the public square – to both Christians and those not yet trusting in Jesus.
